A student nurse who has been missing for nearly two months has been found 'safe and well' by Police. Owami Davies, 24, had been reported missing after disappearing in the Croydon area of South London on Thursday, 7 July.
Nicknamed "Princess" because of her love of Disney, she had last been seen on CCTV walking along London road after leaving her family home days earlier on 4 July. The Metropolitan Police say they were able to trace Owami after a tip off from a member of the public at 10.30am on Tuesday 23 August.
Officers say that she appears to be fit and well cared for but added that they want to speak to the nurse about her welfare.. Owami’s family have been informed and they have spoken to her.
According to the Mirror, it was revealed earlier this month (August 20) that the Met had spoken to the student nurse on the day she was reported missing by her family but did not know she was a missing person as Essex Police had not put this information in the database.
On the evening of Wednesday, July 6, police went to a home in Clarendon Road in West Croydon after concerns about the welfare of a woman were made.
Officers found a woman, later identified by the Met as Owami on July 13, sleeping in the doorway of a property and called an ambulance but she said she did not want assistance and left. A source told The Guardian the woman only gave her first name as Owami as footage from an officer's bodycam showed her visibly distressed, appeared on missing person appeals all over social media.
Met officers didn't realise the woman they had spoken to on July 6 was Owami Davies until a week later. The last known sighting of Owami was the next day, on Thursday, July 7 at around 12.30pm on London Road in Croydon.
Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Penney, Specialist Crime, said: “This is the outcome we were all hoping and praying for. My team have been working around to clock to find Owami and we are immensely relieved she has been found.
“I would like to sincerely thank the media and public for sharing appeals to find Owami. Your help in cases like this is crucial and we are very grateful. I’d like to also thank colleagues at Essex Police for their invaluable assistance during this investigation.
“I would now politely request that the privacy of Owami and her family are respected at this time.”
Commander Paul Brogden added: “We know there have been concerns raised around the search for Owami. We, alongside our colleagues in Essex Police, will be carrying out a review of all our actions from when Owami was first reported missing to ensure we have acted correctly and to identify any ways to improve our response to finding other missing people.”
