Student in Vizianagaram district dies of snake bite

VIZIANAGARAM: A student of BC gurukul pathasala hostel at Kurupam in Vizianagaram district died and another is critical after a snake bite. One more student, who was also bitten by the poisonous snake, is said to be out of danger.

Police said the poisonous snake bit three students on Thursday night while they were fast asleep in their hostel. The deceased student was identified as M Ranjit Kumar of Dalaipet village. The condition of one student is said to be serious, while the third is stable.

The victims - Ranjit, E Vamsi of Jigaram, and Vangapandu Naveen of Jaggunaidupeta village - are students of class VIII in the BC residential school.

The snake may have entered the hostel at midnight. Hostel authorities shifted the students to a local hospital and from there to Paravathipuram area hospital. They also killed the snake. Joint collector R Mahesh Kumar visited the area hospital and shifted them to a private hospital in Vizianagaram where doctors advised the parents to shift them to KGH in Vizag.
