Student dies in Jesus crucifixion re-enactment with audience spotting him bleeding

Heartbreaking photos have been shared of a student who died while re-enacting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday.

Audience members initially thought it was part of the show when 25-year-old Suel Ambrose suddenly fell to the ground.

The philosophy student collapsed while playing the role of St Peter during the Passion of the Christ performance at Clariantian University in Nigeria.

Mr Ambrose fell to the ground following the biblical scene where St Peter cuts off a soldier's ear to protect Jesus, leading the audience to believe it was part of the play.

But they soon realised he was bleeding and rushed to his aid.

The student, who reportedly had dreams of becoming a priest after graduating from university, later died in hospital.

A witness at the campus told how "everybody came together and rushed the deceased to a school hospital" before his condition worsened and he was moved to another medical centre.

"It was from there we heard he could not survive it," the witness told Vanguard.

"Initially when it happened we thought it was a joke and that it was part of the drama. It was when he could not get up that was when we knew it was a serious matter and he was rushed to hospital.”

The university is yet to issue further information about the tragedy.

Religious texts document the injuries of Jesus Christ in great detail where it is said nails were hammered through his hands and feet.

According to the Bible, he was speared by a Roman soldier and collapsed while being made to carry the cross.

However, other theories argue that he died from a separate injury.

The Mirror reported on Friday how a doctor turned priest has presented a new theory about the mystery of Jesus's death.

Good Friday and Easter traditions are based on what we know about his demise from the gospels in the New Testament.

The Crucifixion, or the act of being tied or nailed to a cross, is famously how Jesus met his fate.

But one scientist now claims that he died of complications from a shoulder wound before the Roman nails pierced his skin.

Rev Prof Patrick Pullicino believes that this was as a result of the wound and Jesus being stretched out on the cross.

Scholars say he probably dislocated his right shoulder when he fell while being forced to carry the heavy wooden cross.
