Student banned from carrying eggs in public after 'throwing them at King Charles'

A STUDENT accused of throwing eggs at King Charles has been banned from carrying them in public.

Patrick Thelwell, a 23-year-old student at the University of York, was arrested after eggs were thrown at King Charles and the Queen Consort during a public appearance in the city on Wednesday.

None of the eggs hit the monarch or his wife.

Following the incident he was arrested by North Yorkshire Police and charged with a Section 4 public order offence.

However, the student said that his bail conditions had to be altered in order for him to go grocery shopping after he was banned him from carrying eggs in a public place.

The conditions of his bail also state that he not permitted to be within 500 metres of the King or the Queen Consort.

Thelwell said the motivation behind his actions was to raise awareness of climate change.

But in the aftermath of the incident the student was subject to streams of abuse by onlookers.

He told The Mirror: “After I was arrested the experience of that crowd, literally screaming and wailing with pure rage. Saying that my head should be on a spike, that I should be murdered on the spot.

"It doesn't phase me because I understand what fascism is, what it looks like.

“People were ripping chunks of my hair out, they were spitting at me. People lost their minds.”

“It's just so revealing to see when you challenge someone’s beliefs in that way, the belief of the superiority of this man’s blood.”

Thelwell said he also received abusive messages on social media and that the police attempted to stop him from speaking when he was being arrested.

"I've had death threats, people on DM, Instagram, saying ‘If I’m not careful I'm going to get my head cut off’ “People were kicking me. Of course they were. I challenged the very core of their identity.

“The police tried to stop me saying what I was saying. They held my mouth shut, they had their thumbs in my eyes. They kneed me repeatedly in the side.

“But once I got to the station they gave me Pot Noodles.”

He also called for a revolution and the dissolving of the United Kingdom as an entity.

"We have a Government that are enacting fascist policies particularly by their treatment of refugees,” he added.

“The United Kingdom as a whole, needs to be abolished, dissolved and its assets given as reparations to help the world and build resilience to the climate breakout that we have caused.

"It's time for the people of the world to unite and have the revolution that we desperately need to survive.”

He is due to appear in court on December 1.
