NEW DELHI: The contribution of stubble burning to Delhi's pollution on Diwali increased to around 10 percent, the highest this year so far, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). However, it was still lower than previous years -- it was 25 percent on Diwali in 2021; 32 per cent in 2020 and 19 per cent in 2019, as per the SAFAR, a forecasting agency under the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The share of stubble burning in Delhi's PM2.5 pollution remained low (up to five per cent) until Sunday as transport-level winds were not strong enough to carry smoke from farm fires to the national capital region.
