Stuart Pearce proposes VAR solution after Maxwel Cornet's West Ham goal was disallowed

Former West Ham assistant manager Stuart Pearce says he has a solution to fix the ongoing issues with VAR.

The Hammers were denied a point at Stamford Bridge on Saturday when they lost 2-1 despite taking the lead through Michail Antonio.

Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz gave the home side a 2-1 lead before Maxwel Cornet struck late on to salvage a point for David Moyes' side.

However, a VAR check deemed that Jarrod Bowen clipped Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and the goal was disallowed, condemning West Ham to another defeat and leaving them 18th in the Premier League.

Pearce, who spent two seasons as a Hammers player before returning as a coach in 2020 and leaving the club at the end of the 2021/22 season, said that a way to fix VAR would be to hire an out-of-work manager

"I've always said that someone with a footballing background should be at Stockley Park," Pearce told talkSPORT. "Now the LMA could supply a manager that has been out of work and this manager has probably played the game, coached the game and whatever."

When jokingly asked in studio if Pearce could be that person, he replied: "Of course," before saying he already had a job on air with talkSPORT.

He added: "That's what I would do, I'd have someone there with a footballing background. If nothing else it would appease probably the managers, coaches in the game and the players as well and help the referees. This is all about helping the referees come to a better decision."
