Stuart Kettlewell named Motherwell manager as he lands permanent shot after impressive interim reign

Motherwell have appointed Stuart Kettlewell as their manager after a perfect spell as interim gaffer, with the club set to make an official announcement.

The former Ross County boss was brought in as caretaker after Steven Hammell was sacked after a dismal 3-1 defeat to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup compounded their misery amid a winless Premiership run that stretched back to Halloween. But Kettlewell has steadied the ship and delivered two impressive home wins over St Mirren and Hearts - having won once at home in the Premiership - to push them six points above bottom and Record Sport revealed earlier this week that the job was his if he wanted it. Now he has accepted the position

They're also five points above the relegation play-off spot occupied by Ross County and it's been enough to convince Fir Park chairman Jim McMahon to hand the reins to Kettlewell, who joined Motherwell's youth coaching system last year. His first game in permanent charge will be this weekend in a crucial clash at Kilmarnock, who sit a place below the ninth-placed Steelmen before another pivotal battle versus Ross County a week on Saturday.
