Our circadian rhythm is naturally designed for us to go to bed early and to wake up early. However, some of us may be so used to sitting up late into the night. We might be feeling that the friend who is waking up early is getting things done faster than ourselves. In fact, if you are wondering how to become a morning person, there are some expert-backed habits that we can develop so as to make this transition. Without further ado, let's learn about them individually.

1. Turn off Digital Gadgets

Keep your devices aside an hour or two before sleep. The blue light coming from these screens can disrupt melatonin production in our system. As many of us might already know, melatonin is the hormone that regulate our sleep cycle.

These apps will have some tasks like solving puzzles or mathematical calculations. The alarm sound will stop only after you complete those tasks. The best part? Once you complete them your sleepiness will leave you.

3. Take Care of What You Eat & Drink

Experts say that we should avoid foods like chocolate before bed as they contain caffeine. Cola, coffee etc should be avoided many hours before sleep as well.

4. Get an Accountability Partner

Our willpower’s strength doubles when we are doing something together. So, if you have a friend or a family member who likes to become a morning person, do this together. After waking up, give a call to your accountability partner. The sense of accountability will make things much easier.

5. Meditate or Stretch

Before you go to bed, you can meditate or do some stretching. These habits will clear your mind and bring down stress and worries significantly. With a calm mind, falling asleep is not a big deal.

6. Let Go Of the ‘Snooze Habit’

During the first few minutes of waking up, our conscious mind won’t be active. So, if we are pressing snooze during this period, it can become a subconscious habit. The best thing is to never snooze at all.

7. Do Something You are Passionate About

This habit will make up feel excited about waking up early. If you are passionate about writing or reading, take up a book. If you are a musician, pick up your instrument first thing in the morning. We should always have something exciting to do after waking up.

8. Movement

You can visit gym or even engage in brisk walking for half-an-hour or one hour with your friend or partner. Allowing the blood to flow all over the body first thing in the morning, will give you that natural boost or ‘kick’ to face the day with vigour and strength. After the workout, take a shower. With this ritual, your day has officially started with inner and physical rejuvenation.
