Strictly viewers left emotional after special Remembrance Sunday dance

Strictly Come Dancing viewers were reduced to tears moments into Sunday night's show after the pro-dancers took to the dance floor with a special Remembrance Sunday routine, and a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Images of poppies were projected onto the BBC ballroom dance floor before petals dropped from the ceiling and floated down amongst the professionals and audience.

It ended with a poignant tribute to Her Majesty as with an image of a younger queen, who served during World War II, on a screen above the main stage area.

Next week the hit BBC programme with come live from Blackpool, for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to Twitter to express their emotions, one fan commented on tonight's opening scenes saying: "Opening dance on #Strictly results. I'm bawling my eyes out."

Another wrote: "That was beautiful. I’m in bits. #strictly "

A third said: "Beautiful Tribute the brave men & women on Strictly so moving for all of us whose family fought so we could be free poignant that all the dancers turn to a photo of Queen Elizabeth II at the end."

It was an emotional start to Sunday's show (BBC)

" Absolutely beautiful Remembrance tribute and so wonderful to include the Queen ", tweeted another.

While a fifth replied: "Strictly always do a beautiful professional dancers routine for #RemembranceSunday but this year was breath-taking. There’s such beauty in simplicity and it was a gorgeous way of also paying tribute to the late Queen and her military service. Well done to all involved"

A sixth commented: "This was lovely to watch. A perfect choice for a Remembrance Sunday show. #Strictly "
