Strictly's Hamza hasn't cut his hair in 17 years due to 'rebelling'

Strictly Come Dancing's Hamza Yassin started growing his 17-year-old locks due to a rebellious phase.

The wildlife presenter and photographer took the ballroom by storm as he's dominated the competition from week one. No longer the underdog he once was before the show launched, Hamza is now the favourite to win this year's trophy.

A hot commodity in the interview circuit, Hamza has been popping up everywhere to discuss the process, his professional partner, and most recently his strikingly long hair.

During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, he was quizzed on whether or not he would ever give his hair the chop. Hamza said he used to do so regularly but decided to "rebel", with the last official haircut being nearly two decades ago.

He said: "I have, it’s only 17 years old as such. I just rebelled one year, I'm like, 'I'm done'. And that was it. There have been bits that have [been] trimmed because I was in the Arctic and it dipped in a bit of engine oil so it'll get snipped off every now and then."

"I remember, my mum used to sit me down, me, my brother and my dad, and just give us the number two the whole time," he recalled on This Morning, sharing the moment that led him to say 'enough'."

Hamza went on to say, during his performances, he would often have his hair pinned to his shirt to keep it from getting in the way of his steps. Viewers have often seen the locks swaying to more energetic numbers such as when he and his partner, Jowita Przystal, did the jive in week two.
