Strictly's Amy Dowden shares ‘frustrating’ cancer update as she reveals treatment is ‘in limbo’

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared a “frustrating” update amidst her breast cancer battle, revealing that her penultimate chemotherapy session is “in limbo”.

The Welsh dancer announced in June that she had undergone a mastectomy after discovering she had stage three breast cancer, and would be unable to have a celebrity partner on the show this year.

Following her surgery, she began chemotherapy after medics found the cancer had spread.

Taking to her Instagram Story, the BBC star explained that she was informed by her specialists that her platelet count needed to increase by Thursday morning in order to have the treatment, otherwise she would have to wait another week.

The 33-year-old told her followers: “Frustratingly, my neutrophils, white blood cells are all good but my platelets are too low currently for chemo, which is really frustrating because I feel really well.

“But my doctor said, ‘Come in on Thursday morning and let’s see if they’ve improved.’

“Otherwise my chemo will have to be delayed by a week, which obviously, I don’t really want because I just want to get this over and done with.

“So I’m in limbo really. I’ll go tomorrow, but it’s weird because I prepare myself that I’m having chemo but I might not have chemo,” she shared.

The dancer added that she would be “gutted” if she can’t undergo her treatment as planned as she can now “see the finish line”.

Dowden’s final round of chemo should take place on November 9, as long as she’s able to undergo treatment on Thursday.

Before signing off, she urged her followers to keep their fingers crossed in the hope that she can have her treatment as scheduled, and thanked her social media followers for their continued support.
