Strictly Come Dancing: When is show next on as BBC cancel season premiere

The season premiere of Strictly Come Dancing was set to start tonight.

Stars such as Coronation Street's Kym Marsh, Loose Women's Kaye Adams and former Arsenal defender Tony Adams will don their dancing shoes as they compete for the prestigious Glitterball. The launch episode was set to be broadcast at 6.20pm.

However, the BBC confirmed earlier this week the first episode will be moved in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's death. The nation is in mourning after Her Majesty died aged 96 on Thursday, September 8.

The former monarch's funeral is set to take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday and the BBC has announced a special programming schedule across the weekend to mark the Queen's legacy. This has impacted the launch episode of Strictly as this will now air on Friday, September 23.

The first live show will be broadcast the following day on Saturday, September 24. Tonight's edition of the popular dancing contest has been replaced by an episode of Pointless celebrities and the Paddington movie.
