Strictly Come Dancing 'to return to Blackpool' after three years to mark 20th anniversary

Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to Blackpool after three years.

The BBC One Latin and ballroom show is reportedly heading back to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom this winter, as the show returns to 'normal' following the Covid pandemic.

Blackpool is one of the fan favourite weeks on the show, and a lot of the contestants brand it as the week to get to when they compete on the dancing show each year.

For two years, Strictly has been unable to be broadcasted live from the Northern city's iconic venue due to coronavirus, but bosses are reportedly keen for the show to return there this year to mark the show's 20th anniversary.

"Blackpool week is such an important part of Strictly and everyone was gutted not to be able to go for the last two years," a source shared to The Sun about bosses' plans for the upcoming series.

"The production team are working out the logistics but everyone is feeling really hopeful that the show will be able to return there for 2022. And the fact that it will reach the landmark 20th series makes it all the more important."

And Strictly could also be broadcasted live from another big venue this year - no less than Buckingham Palace.

It has been revealed Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are huge fans of the show and would love to host an episode at the royal residence with the couple said to be "very much driving" the chance of Strictly coming to the Palace.

"The BBC couldn’t quite believe what was being offered," a source shared.

It was also felt it would be a fitting end to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year.

"The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are, like millions of others, huge fans of Strictly Come Dancing - and so is the Queen," a source had previously explained, "So there is a real desire and energy to make this happen.

"Holding the show at Buckingham Palace’s ballroom would be a wonderful treat as we celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year. A lot of work needs to be done to get it over the line."

The insider added: "But there is a commitment and sense of goodwill to achieve what would be an unmissable occasion to cap a very special year for the Queen and the nation. Camilla and Charles would be delighted and honoured to host Strictly."
