Strictly Come Dancing's Matt Goss' Las Vegas career, Bros break-up and rift with brother Luke

Strictly Come Dancing's Matt Goss was part of one of the UK's biggest boy bands in the 1980s. Along with brother, Luke, and Craig Logan, they sold 16 million records worldwide. After 30 years, the pop star is now back on our screens on the BBC dancing competition where he's paired with professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova.

But what has Matt been up to since Bros split in 1992? Although mostly out of the public eye, Matt has been busy with a singing career, performing a headline show in Las Vegas for the past 10 years at The Palms, Caesars Palace and The Mirage.

Then, back in 2018, the brothers were reunited on screen to talk about their crazy fame in the 1980s and the subsequent fallout in the must-watch documentary After the Screaming Stops. Bros hit the number one spot back in the day with tracks including I Owe You Nothing and When Will I Be Famous. But the gruelling schedule of interviews, flights and shows took its toll on the group, in particular on bassist Craig, whose health rapidly deteriorated.

Aged just 19, he was diagnosed with ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome, and quickly became too sick to walk on stage. He decided to leave the band and following that the brothers' relationship deteriorated.

The issue, it emerged, was jealousy over Matt's position as the frontman while Luke played drums. "I was jealous of the way he was heard by management – the way he was considered and I wasn't. I felt undervalued by the team," Luke told The Sun back in 2018.

In turn, that had an impact on Matt, who said he shrunk away from the conflict and just wanted to please.

Matt said: "I respect Luke as a human being, so the fact that me being the lead singer caused a rift was tough. I was so afraid of p**sing him off that I became subservient, worried anything I said would be misinterpreted."

The pair maintained there was 'no big feud' and the longest they didn't speak was for three years. But that all changed when, tragically, their mother, Carol, died in 2014. "When you lose your mum, emotions are high and all your nerve endings are broken. I have to say it broke us a little bit," he previously told The Mirror.

"Then I got a call from my brother's wife Shirley. Me and Luke just jumped on the phone and started talking."

Matt has also spoken about how he became more-or-less a recluse when Carol died after caring for her in her final days. Speaking ahead of the Strictly Come Dancing launch, Matt said: " I knew in a somewhat unhealthy way that I was becoming reclusive in my world because it was shows, concerts, touring.

"And then I was retreating far too heavily, certainly on the 11th year of my residency and I was like... I lost my mum and I steamed through my grief with my work and I spent a little bit of time on my album."

Matt and Nadiya have already danced the samba and quickstep and there were rumours of a 'fued' between the pair, but the professional dancer put an end to that after she wished Matt happy birthday on Instagram earlier this week.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One every weekend.
