Strictly Come Dancing's first star accidentally lets slip he's joining BBC show

A new Strictly Come Dancing pro has revealed that he will be joining the latest series of the show.

Vito Coppola, who currently appears on Ballando con le Stelle which is the Italian version of the programme, let slip that he will be joining the line-up.

The dancer accidently confirmed that he would be the latest dancer during a live TV interview.

Vito was being quizzed by TV presenter Milly Carlucci who presents the Italian version of the show, when he said he was heading to the UK.

He said: "It was a sudden thing, I’m putting my ideas in order, but I’m happy and I can’t wait.

"[The BBC ] were very fascinated by what we did at Ballando, they saw the videos, what we create. Thanks to you, Milly, and all the Ballando family, who have rooted for me."

Milly went on to congratulate Vito as she said: "It is important that our Italian boys gain experience abroad. Going abroad opens your head and teaches you new things."

Vito will be dancing alongside a line-up of other professional dancers from around the world.

It's not known whether he will have a celebrity partner of his own or if he will be joining the group dances.

The current professionals are: Kai Widdrington, Nikita Kuzmin, Amy Dowden, Dianne Buswell, Giovanni Pernice, Gorka Marquez, Johannes Radebe, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Graziano Di Prima, Nadiya Bychkova, Nancy Xu and Neil Jones.

Cameron Lombard, Jowita Przystal, Luba Mushtuk are also professionals but didn't get a celebrity partner in last year's series.

The 2022 series of the programme will be returning around Autumn but no start date has been confirmed yet.

Vito only joined the Italian version of the programme in 2021 but went on to win the series in his first year with Italian singer Arista.

During their time on the show, they were hit by Strictly's famous curse and rumours emerged that the pair were dating.

However, they didn't confirmed the rumours until after the show but recently it's thought the pair's relationship could be on the rocks.

In the past few months, two professional dancers would be leaving the UK show.

Two-time winner Oti Mabuse and Aljaž Škorjanec said they would both be leaving.

No other new professionals have been announced but bosses teased there would be some new faces in the line-up.

Last year's line-up of judges will be returning for the Autumn series.

Craig Revel Horwood will be sat alongside Motsi Mabuse and Head Judge Shirley Ballas as they give their opinion on the celebrity dancing skills.

Former Strictly profession Anton Du Beke will also be joining the judging panel for another year after being a hit with fans of the show.

Anton replaced former judge Bruno Tonioli last year after he couldn't travel from the US due to coronavirus restrictions on travel.

The BBC have been approached for comment.
