Strictly Come Dancing fans left complaining just minutes into first live show over opening dance

Strictly Come Dancing fans were feeling rather annoyed just minutes into the first live show of 2022, over Kym Marsh being asked to perform a jive on week one.

Despite many thrilled to see Kym and her pro-partner Graziano Di Prima dance the Jive to Yes by Merry Clayton, some viewers felt it was too early in the series for the performance, writes The Mirror.

And it didn't take long for those at home to take to social media to make their views clear. "Jive on week one always feels a bit harsh to me. Thought Kym did well being first as well. Lots of potential once the nerves reduce a bit! #Strictly," one wrote, as another added: "Wow to be given Jive week one that’s really tough for anyone to get #Strictly."

A third shared: "Always think a jive in the first week is unfair," with a fourth writing: "Why are they doing a jive on week 1?! #strictly."

Others, though, defended Kym for her performance - and said she was dealt a hard first week especially with it being a jive and her being tasked with opening the entire series as the show marks its 20th anniversary.

"I enjoyed that Jive it's a difficult dance for Week 1 Kym did well. #Strictly," another shared, whilst one wrote: "It was a good start for Kym. She definitely needs learn how to speed up though because that was a little slow for Jive. #Strictly."

Fans felt it was a little harsh on them for Week 1 (BBC)

A fan said on social media: "That was a difficult dance for a series opener, and the music choice was strange. Not a particularly great jive but a decent first effort. Shame the audience are back, clapping along almost in time with the music #Strictly."

Strictly Come Dancing returned to screens last night for its first live show, and fans were thrilled to see it back with a full audience for the first time since the Covid pandemic.

The group will also return to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom for a very special episode of the show. It will be the first time they have been back in Blackpool in three years due to the restrictions.

Strictly Come Dancing is live at 6:30pm every Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
