Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left delighted viewers with news of a special theme for the new series, which will mark 100 years of the BBC.
Strictly has been on our TV screens for 18 years now, having made its debut in the summer of 2004. It's been admitted that some executives at the channel weren't fully convinced that the show would be such a hit, but it quickly became one of the BBC's biggest programmes and is now, quite rightly, regarded as a national treasure.
For many fans, Strictly is the one show they look forward to year after year and, as just weeks to go until it returns for 2022, some major news has been announced. In the past, theme likes Movie Week and Halloween have proven to be real spectacles for the contestants, judges and viewers at home to enjoy and this year there will be a one-off special inspired by the BBC's centenary year.

And the even better news is that there will finally be a return to Blackpool's iconic Tower Ballroom, after Covid ruined Strictly's annual jaunt to the seaside for two successive years.
Commenting on the changes, Strictly’s executive producer Sarah James said: “We know how much viewers love the Strictly themed weeks so it’s fantastic to be able to announce a new one, celebrating the BBC’s centenary.
“It’s the icing on the cake to be able to confirm that we are returning to the iconic Blackpool Tower ballroom this year, we can’t wait to get back to Blackpool.”
It didn't take long for Strictly fans to react to the news, with one taking to Twitter to pots: " #Strictly doing a BBC THEME TUNES week because its the BBC'S 100th birthday THATS GONNA BE GOOD."
Another tweeted: "i honestly love this idea and cannot wait i would love for them to perform these three 1. Strictly theme (aka probably not gonna happen) 2. Match of the day 3. EastEnders," while a third said the Doctor Who theme tune was an absolute must.
