Strictly Come Dancing 2022 start date revealed as AJ Odudu lets slip details

The start date for the 20th series of Strictly Come Dancing has been revealed, with the show set to begin on September 17, reports The Mirror. Pro dancer Johannes Radebe confirmed the news on The Big Breakfast on Saturday after host and former Strictly star AJ Odudu made the announcement.

Joahnnes shared his excitement for the show to return, following the news of who would be on this year's lineup. AJ began: "We do have the exclusive that the launch of Strictly Come Dancing 2022 is gonna be on September 17!"

Johannes replies: "It is exciting – you would know! Everyone is waiting for it, I know. You can't face winter without Strictly, so I'm excited to have it back on our screens." AJ replied: "Exactly, me too!"

It follows the news that a pre-recorded launch show would be filmed on Wednesday 7th September, as the celebrities are paired up with their professional dance partners. It's thought the weekend of September 10 could see this episode air.

But perhaps the 17th is when fans will see the pairings instead, as normally the live launch and first live show air a little later in September. The Daily Record's sister title, The Mirror, has contacted a spokesperson for Strictly for comment.

Scots presenter Kaye Adams will join the likes of Hamza Yassin, Fleur East, Molly Rainford, Ellie Taylor and Matt Goss. Also on the bill are Tyler West, Ellie Simmonds, Jayde Adams and Richie Anderson on the glamorous ballroom dancefloor next month.

We told you how Kaye admitted that Strictly has transformed her life, in an Instagram post, she said: "Do you know what, people keep asking me how I feel about doing Strictly, and up until know I have said oh I don't know, I'm nervous, I'm nervous.

"And all of that is true, but actually, I can unequivocally say I am so happy that I have agreed because it has reconnected me with real people. Like lots of journalists, I live on Twitter. And like all the nastiness. The toxicity. And people trying to take you down all the time.

"And this has just transformed my life - because I'm at the shop and out for a walk with a dog or just wherever. I'm in a restaurant whatever and just nice ordinary people go 'good luck, I hope it goes well. Oh aren't you brave!'

"It's just really nice, decent people. They're out there. This is so nice to be reminded of it."
