Streeting says nurses are ‘backbone of our NHS’ after worker stabbed in hospital

Wes Streeting has described nurses as “the backbone of our NHS” after a staff member was left in a critical condition by a stabbing in a hospital’s acute medical unit (AMU).

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the nurse, a woman in her 50s, was seriously injured at the Royal Oldham Hospital at about 11.30pm on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police said.
