Stranraer star is praying for clear scan results after horror injury

Stranraer star Paul Woods is praying that scan results don’t show a lot of damage after he dislocated his knee on Saturday.

Former East Kilbride ace Woods, 36, collided with a team-mate while going in for a tackle two minutes from the interval, and the impact caused his knee to dislocate.

The veteran midfielder popped it back in, but was taken off and has since been referred to a knee specialist where he will undergo a scan to reveal the extent of the damage.

Woods is in a brace to bend the knee 90 degrees and has some discomfort, but hopes it’s just a strain, and that he can get back to action, soon.

Woods watched as his team-mates bounced back from two defeats and a draw with a 1-0 win over Forfar that leaves them sixth in League Two.

He said: “I was chasing a player back, and one of our players has come in to make a tackle as well, so I’ve tried to avoid him, came down on my left leg and my knee has dislocated.

“I managed to just pop it back in, but I’m just waiting on a scan now to see if there’s any damage round about it, and take it from there.

“I’ve been referred to a knee specialist, so probably there will be some sort of damage to the ligaments but we don’t know the extent.

Woods was at East Kilbride for three years but has since moved to Stranraer (SNS Group)

“I’m just waiting to find that out, take it from there and see where I go.

“The fact it has popped out and I’ve popped it back in means the knee cap has gone back into position fine, and hopefully it’s just a strain and there’s nothing torn or anything like that, so fingers crossed.”

The injury came at a time when Woods has been receiving plaudits for his performances, scoring six goals for Stranraer.

He said: “I’ve been doing pretty well personally and, as a team, we’ve been playing well in stages, and then sort of dropping off it.

“We were winning at the weekend, we’re looking to go on another run, which everybody else is doing, and we’re looking to get back up that league.

“Hopefully that win at the weekend pushes the lads on, moves us up the table, and the best-case scenario is that I’m only out for a few weeks.

“The sooner I can get back the better. I’m feeling pretty fit and doing not too bad, and these things always happen when you think you’re doing all right, don’t they?”
