Stranger Things actor Matthew Modine is set to join the cast of the West End production of To Kill a Mockingbird as lawyer Atticus Finch.
On Monday (October 10), it was announced that Modine and Cecilia Noble would lead the new company of the critically acclaimed production of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird from November 21.
The play, by Aaron Sorkin, and directed by Bartlett Sher, is currently running at the Gielgud Theatre in the West End.
Also set to join the cast are Sam Mitchell as Jem Finch, Ellis Howard as Dill Harris, Jason Hughes as Bob Ewell, and Colin R Campbell as Mr Roscoe/ Dr Reynolds, with Cheryl Burniston, Jack Crumlin, Alan Drake, Max Ferguson, Phillipa Flynn, Niamh James, Julie Legrand, Nigel Lister, and George Telfer.
Set in Maycomb, Alabama, in 1934, To Kill a Mockingbird provided American literature with some of its most renowned characters - including Atticus Finch, the tragically wronged Tom Robinson, Atticus’s daughter Scout, her brother Jem, their housekeeper and caretaker Calpurnia, and the reclusive Arthur “Boo” Radley.
For the past six decades and for every generation, this story, its characters, and its portrait of small-town America have helped, and continue to, inspire conversation and change.
Remaining in the company are Harry Attwell as Mr Cunningham/Boo Radley, Helen Belbin as Miss Stephanie/Dill’s Mother, Niall Buggy as Judge Taylor, John Hastings as the bailiff, Rebecca Hayes as Mayella Ewell, Simon Hepworth as Link Deas, Tom Mannion as Sheriff Heck Tate, Anna Munden as Scout Finch, Tiwai Muza, Itoya Osagiede, Jude Owusu as Tom Robinson, Oyin Oyija, David Sturzaker as Horace Gilmer, and Natasha Williams as Mrs Dubose’s Maid.
The current company, with Richard Coyle as Atticus Finch, will play their final performance on November 19. The production is running until February 4, 2023.
