Stranded bride rescued by police after wedding day nightmare

A stranded bride who was due to be married in Bristol was rescued by police after her vehicle broke down in North Somerset.

Yasmin Lovekin and her father, Colin, were on their way to a registry office in Bristol city centre on Friday, May 6 when their white Cadillac broke down in Tickenham. Yasmin was due to marry her sweetheart Gemma, and she was rescued by officers PC Bridget Griffiths and PCSO Kate Turner, who were on patrol in Nailsea and passed the vehicle when they noticed the bride was still inside.

The car could not be repaired and so the officers drove Yasmin to the wedding venue in time for the ceremony. PC Griffiths said: “We took the route over the Clifton Suspension Bridge, at which point the bride happily informed us she had wanted to pass over the bridge on her wedding day but wasn’t able to in the Cadillac.”
