An eye-catching new mural was today unveiled on a popular city centre street.
The mural was painted above the record shop 81 Renshaw Street, which has a long and colourful history as the former home of the music magazine Mersey Beat. The magazine was created by Bill Harry, a classmate of John Lennon at Liverpool Art College, in the 1960s and was made to reflect and promote the outpouring of new music talent that Liverpool was producing at the time.
Shop owner Neil Tilly was keen for the new mural to celebrate different artists in the city. Painted by artist Paul Curtis, the mural was commissioned as part of National Album Day and celebrates the debut albums of four different artists.

Neil, 59, told the ECHO: "I thought wouldn't it be great to have a mural on Renshaw Street, it's such a prominent street. I thought it would be great for the area.
"I wanted to stay away from the Beatles a bit this time. There's so much music in Liverpool as well as the Beatles. I thought it would be good to champion other artists."
The theme of National Album Day this Saturday (October 15) is celebrating debut albums. The Renshaw Street mural features debut albums from Elvis Costello, the Zutons, The La's and The Yachts.
Neil said: "It should have a positive impact on Renshaw Street. We're parallel really to Bold Street which gets a lot of footfall, but Renshaw Street is one of the busiest streets for traffic.
"I think it will get seen a lot more than some other streets in town and hopefully stick in people's minds and next time they need to buy a vinyl record they'll come to our shop."
