Stormzy wears Newcastle United shirt sparking chants from Utilita Arena crowd

Stormzy made his Geordie fans fall in love with him even more after he proudly donned a Newcastle United shirt for his gig in the city on Wednesday.

The Big for Your Boots and Blinded By Your Grace star was on Tyneside to play a rescheduled date at the Utilita Arena and, after the show was pushed back due to Covid, both the Glastonbury headlining rapper and his captive audience were well up for a night to remember.

That meant the atmosphere was at fever pitch as Stormzy made his entrance to track Big Michael, before launching into a back to back of Audacity, Know Me From and Cold.

Having had to wait a while to see him in action, Stormzy's fans in Newcastle lapped up every bar of every song and he ingratiated himself to his Geordie crowd even more when he pulled on a retro Newcastle United shirt from the mid-2000s.

Stormzy's outfit chance prompted chants of Black and White Army around the packed arena and fans, many who were there and many who weren't there but fully appreciated his Geordie gesture, flocked to Twitter to share the love.

Posting their pictures, one fan posted: " #STORMZY wearing Newcastle United toon t shirt toon toon," with a second tweeting: "stormzy in black and white at Newcastle. he’s a mag."

A third simply reacted: "UTM" along with a picture of the main man, who rounded off his set with Vossi Bop.

At one of his first gigs in Newcastle, six years ago at Digital, Stormzy was presented with a 'Geordie power pack' from promoter Mike Hesketh, which included a NUFC top from the Kevin Keegan era; a Cheryl Cole calendar, a Greggs sausage roll and a case of Newcastle Brown Ale.
