Londoner's Diary
Edward Enninful and the Vogue team threw a party for “changemakers” last night at the MAINE hotel in Mayfair as part of its “Forces for Change”. The aim is to big up those who drive “positive change” across the arts, culture etc. This year the “changemakers” included footballers like Mary Earps, as well as actor Gemma Chan and model Munroe Bergdorf.
This will be Enninful’s last “Forces for Change” party as Vogue editor. He is moving to a broader role at the magazine’s publisher Condé Nast. But he will still be involved in the programme, no doubt. He launched the initiative in September 2019 with the help of his friend Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Alongside the sincere purpose of last night’s event, Vogue also rather earthily describes it as “an excuse to wear nice clothes”. And how nice they were. Johnnie Walker Blue Label whisky, Laurent-Perrier champagne and Seventy One gin provided the drinks.
Sharon teary as Ozzy honoured
Sharon Osbourne accepted the Icon Award on husband Ozzy’s behalf with tears in her eyes at last night’s Rolling Stone awards. On the red carpet, singer Yungblud announced: “I am definitely getting wasted tonight, yeah. I just got off a flight from LA so I’ve got to stay up till 2am, so I may as well be pissed!”
Yungblud won the Live Act award, while Lewis Capaldi won the Gamechanger award, though he couldn’t accept in person. Yungblud told us Capaldi “seems in a good place, taking some time out”. Daniel Kaluuya scooped the Film Award and joked about the rising cost of Netflix. “Subscriptions ain’t cheap, you can’t share the password as much… allegedly.” Nell Mescal told us she hasn’t ruled out collaborating musically with her brother Paul, if they find the time.
Rockin' around the Claridge's tree
To Claridge’s, where Dame Joan Collins and her husband Percy Gibson attended the unveiling of this year’s Christmas tree. Since 2009, the hotel has teamed up with high-end fashion labels to create the tree. This year, Louis Vuitton put the tree inside stacked giant suitcases. DJ Zara Martin and TikTok-er Hana Martin (no relation) were also there.
