Weather experts at the Met Office have said to expect blustery winter showers on Thursday (February 24).
There are yellow weather warnings in place for wind and snow in parts of northern England and Scotland as Storm Gladys could hit the UK.
Frequent heavy snow showers are expected in parts of Scotland along with very gusty winds and a chance of frequent lightning affecting some places.
If extreme weather conditions develop on Wednesday or Thursday, this could be named Storm Gladys, the UK's next named storm, though forecasters have not yet confirmed this.
While there are no weather warnings in place for the East Midlands as of 1pm on Wednesday, the Met Office has said cold, blustery and wintry showers are expected on Thursday in the region.
Here's the forecast for the week ahead in the East Midlands from the Met Office:
Wednesday:
A generally dry, bright start, with some strong winds in the northwest. Isolated showers possible, otherwise mostly dry with sunny spells until rain arrives from the northwest during the late evening. Generally breezy. Maximum temperature 11 °C.
Wednesday night:
Band of rain and perhaps hill snow later, gradually moving south, followed by colder conditions. The rain may linger for a time at the end of the night. Minimum temperature 1 °C.
Thursday:
Rain soon clearing Thursday morning, then cold with blustery wintry showers to follow. However, also some bright spells in-between, these more prevalent in the east. Windy at times. Maximum temperature 7 °C.
Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Sunny spells and lighter winds developing through Friday. Early frost Saturday, dry and mostly bright, breezier later. Sunday, variable cloud but mostly dry. Probably still breezy.
