Storm Franklin: When and where will be worst as Met Office issues fresh warning

Just when we thought we had seen the back of stormy weather after Eunice's devastating visit, the Met Office has announced another is on its way. But it looks like Storm Franklin will affect the north, rather than the south of the UK tonight (Sunday, February 20) and into tomorrow morning.

Forecasters predict wind gusts from Storm Franklin will be less powerful than Storm Eunice, which triggered two red weather warnings for wind. As Franklin approaches, northern areas of Northern Ireland have been issued with an amber wind warning, which will be in force from early Monday morning.

Within the amber warning area, winds could be in excess of 80mph in exposed coastal areas, but more widely between 60 and and 70mph. Damage to buildings is possible, and there’s likely travel disruption, according to the Met Office.
