Storm Franklin warning as NI weather forecast predicts rain and high winds

Northern Ireland is braced for more miserable weather with the arrival of Storm Franklin.

The latest weather warning comes in the wake of Storm Dudley and Eunice last week.

The Met Office has issued another warning for wind in the early hours of Monday.

The strongest winds in the UK are set to hit Northern Ireland.

An amber warning is in place from midnight until 7am.

The Met Office said: “A spell of very strong winds associated with Storm Franklin will bring disruption to parts of Northern Ireland early on Monday.”

A yellow warning for rain is currently in place until 6pm on Sunday.

The Met Office said people can expect ’cloudy with showers or longer outbreaks of rain this morning, heavy at times'.

They added: "Some bright spells and blustery showers this afternoon, the showers turning wintry with snow on the hills. Fresh to strong westerly winds with coastal gales. Maximum temperature 10C."

For tonight, they said: "Very windy with gales or severe gales, gusts of 70mph or more around the north coast and 50 to 60mph inland. Showers or longer outbreaks of rain, wintry at first Minimum temperature 2C."
