Fierce winds from Storm Franklin blew the roof off Ayr flats yesterday morning.
A mum has shared the aftermath after strong gusts battered flats in the Kincaidston estate.
Samantha Allan, 38, was woken up to a loud bang in the early hours of Monday as the extreme weather swept through the estate.
Today, she shared the devastation left behind as the roof of the shared properties in Snowdrop Square was completely blown off.
Samantha has told how police arrived at her door to tell her the front entrance to the property was no longer safe.
The mum-of-two told Ayrshire Live: “I heard a bang this morning about 3.20pm.
“I thought the glass in the close door had caved in with the wind. I didn’t think anything of it — I settled the kids down and went back to sleep.
“But at 6am I had the police at my door telling me not to use the front door because the roof had blown completely off and it was up against the door.
“I looked out my window and all I could see was bits of the roof just lying along the grass.”
Separated parts of the roof have blown out across the front communal gardens of the flat with some even wedged in the branches of a tree.
Samantha added: “It is quite significant damage.
“I’ve stayed here for seven years and never seen anything like it.
“You could tell it was a really bad storm, all the doors were rattling in the wind but I never expected to wake up to this.
“Some of my neighbours who live in the flats above me say they had to be evacuated.
“It was quite scary for my kids. My daughter is nine and my son is five, they had to go out the back door to get to school.”
Council crews have been out assessing the damage and speaking to stunned householders.
A South Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: "A section of roof covering and a roof light on the block of flats at 7-12 Snowdrop Square, Ayr has been affected by storm damage earlier this morning.
"We are currently onsite assessing the damage and carrying out emergency repairs. We will continue to liaise with the householders."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5am on Monday, February 21, officers were called to the Snowdrop Square area of Ayr after a section of rooftop fell to the roadside.
"Officers assisted Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the local authority at the scene.”
