Storm Dudley power cuts: Northern Powergrid confirms that all 20,000 properties have had power restored

The Northern Powergrid has confirmed that power has been restored to every property affected by this week's Storm Dudley, which battered the nation with brutal high-speed winds.

Some 20,000 households were affected by winds reaching 80mph. And although the regional electric supplier worked throughout the night to fix the damages, it anticipated a small amount of repairs would remain until Friday.

Tonight a statement was released on NPG's website that read: "We are pleased to confirm that our teams have reconnected all customers affected by Storm Dudley."

It added: "We are grateful to the fantastic teams of people who have worked to restore supplies to over 20,000 customers and to support all those affected."

However, with Storm Eunice set to thrash the North East tomorrow, NPG claimed it is prepared to tackle yet more outages and potential damages, should they come.

The statement continued: "As and when the storm arrives, we will start to factor that into the estimates we give for power restoration.

"We will give initial estimated restoration times that reflect the fact that we won’t know the extent of the damage to the network.

"Even so, during that time, we will expect to get a lot of supplies restored by reconfiguring the network, but we will not know at that stage which customers are affected by damage that needs physical repair to restore supplies.

"In those early stages, we will be working hard to assess the damage so that we can provide more precise updates as the situation unfolds."

NPG also warns anyone who spots downed or damaged overhead power lines or other equipment to avoid approaching it at all costs, instead reporting it immediately by calling 105.

Storm Eunice:

Storm Eunice is predicted to land in the early hours of tomorrow morning, bringing with it a yellow weather warning from the Met Office.

20,000 residents were affected by Storm Dudley earlier this week. (20,000 residents were affected by Storm Dudley earlier this week.)

The weather warning is in place from 7am tomorrow morning until 6pm tomorrow evening.

Northumbria Police have also issued a statement to those across the region, urging them not to travel unless it is 'absolutely necessary' to do so.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police, earlier said: "Storm Eunice is set to blow into the region very early tomorrow morning, bringing with it a fresh weather warning for the North East.

"We would advise people to only travel if absolutely necessary.

"Our officers will be on hand to respond to incidents and help keep people safe, with the support of our partners."
