Ireland is bracing for Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice today and tomorrow, with Met Eireann issuing weather warnings for heavy rain, strong winds and snow.
Now that Covid restrictions have been lifted, many people will have to brave the bad weather to get to work.
Even though in Ireland we are well used to the rain, many of us probably don’t know how to spot a decent raincoat.
Dublin Live popped in to Regatta Great Outdoors shop in Swords Pavilions shopping centre where we spoke to manager Rob Brown on how to protect ourselves from the heavy rain.
Rob had one really good tip for buying a rain jacket that we never heard before - always check the Isotex number.
“The Isotext rating will tell you how waterproof the jacket is,” explained Rob.
“Jackets with a higher rating would be more suitable for a storm. The jacket won’t get heavy and wet.”
“Isotex 5000 would be a lower rating so that would be your baseline. It goes up to about 10,00 or 15,000.”
So if you’re going to face the rain in the next few days, make sure you are wearing a decent jacket.
A nationwide status yellow weather warning is in place from noon today until midday on Thursday.
Then on Friday, a yellow wind, rain, and snow warning has been issued nationwide from 1am to 3pm.
Storm Eunice will track over Ireland on Thursday bringing heavy rain, very strong wind, sleet, and snow.
