Storm Chandra causes flooding and power outages across Ireland

Flooding has been reported across several parts of Ireland after Storm Chandra brought heavy rain and strong winds overnight. Emergency services carried out multiple rescues in Dublin on Tuesday morning, where motorists were pulled from floodwaters. Dublin Fire Brigade said crews were deployed at a number of sites to assist residents.

Forecasters said about 30mm of rain fell in the capital overnight. A Status Yellow rain warning remains in place until 11pm for Carlow, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford. Around 30,000 people are without power, and several roads are closed across the country.

Enniscorthy in County Wexford was among the worst affected after the River Slaney burst its banks. Authorities are urging drivers to take alternative routes and proceed with caution. A separate Status Yellow wind warning remains in force nationwide.
