Stop Using These Dangerous Fuel Containers, They Could Cause A Fire

No matter what kind of powersports enthusiast you are, chances are excellent that you might have a red plastic fuel jug (or two, or three) sitting around. They're one of those products where you just pick one up when you need it, and most of the time, you probably don't pay a whole lot of attention to what the branding might be on it.

However, if you have any red plastic fuel containers in your possession, you may want to go check that they're not a Scepter B62 Gas and Oil Combination Fuel Container. To make matters somewhat easier, Scepter's name is molded into the side of these containers, so there's no worry if you took any stickers off the outside of a container when you bought it.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for Scepter B62 Gas and Oil Combination Fuel Containers in February 2026 due to two separate issues. Firstly, they apparently lack a required flame mitigation device that all portable fuel containers must have. According to the CPSC's requirements, such devices "impede the propagation of flame into the container."

The second issue is that the spout on this fuel container is not child resistant, thus failing another safety requirement established by the CPSC, and potentially posing burn and/or poisoning risks to children who may encounter it.

Scepter is issuing a refund for fuel cans affected by this recall, which were sold on Amazon. Owners of the recalled fuel containers are requested to immediately stop using them, contact manufacturer Mameix Retail for a full refund (usually about $40), and submit a photo of the fuel container to the company with the word "RECALLED" written on it in permanent marker and placed in the trash.

Around 700 of these fuel containers were sold on Amazon between August 2024 and May 2025. They were made by Canadian company Mameix Retail, Inc. So far, no injuries have been reported, according to the recall announced by the US CPSC.

Customers can contact Mameix Retail at 587-816-2804 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday. Customers can also email scepterrecall@gmail.com regarding this recall, or to submit their photo of their recalled fuel container marked appropriately and placed in the trash.
