Community leaders in Stobswell have revealed that local planning developments are making good progress.
Designs for a ‘Pocket Place’ in Craigie Street have now been completed and will soon go before council planners.
The drawings show the proposed makeover for the thoroughfare that joins Albert and Craigie Streets.
Once planning has been negotiated it is hoped building works will start this Autumn.
Speaking to Dundee Live, Colin Clement from the Stobswell Forum, said that while nothing has been delivered thus far, it ‘feels positive’ that the community plans are moving forward in some areas.
He told us: “The draft design is by Stephen Page at City Development for the Pocket Place in Craigie St, we should remember that the project will still have to go before the DCC Planning Committee so there could still be substantial changes.
“The drawings are not entirely complete as they don’t yet show a confirmed location for the street lighting - that will be decided after the current underground investigations are complete - but should in all other respects give a much clearer impression of what is being proposed for the space.
“The planning application to change the use of the street is to be lodged imminently, and authority to implement a traffic order to enable this is to be presented to the April City Development Committee.
“Assuming all permissions are given then work to deliver this is expected to take place in Autumn this year.”
And Colin added: "The Forum want to see environmental improvements that will put people first and improve the Albert St shopping area for the business’s on the street and both local people and visitors.
“The business’s on Albert St deserve the best possible environment to trade in, an environment that's safe, gives you some place to sit in attractive surroundings and maybe even has a splash of colour.
“Albert St needs to become more friendly for people to visit on foot and by cycle, there needs to be better pavements, more space and somewhere to leave your cycle when you are here.
“We need to move towards reducing the number of Heavy Goods Vehicles and Non Stopping Inter City Buses on Albert St, we need to make sure that the traders, customers and locals come first."
