A man caught with a knife in a Stirling city centre street was this week given a chance to engage with a drug treatment order.
George McLaughlan had last month admitted a charge of having the knife in Friars Street on April 27 this year without reasonable excuse.
The 47-year-old appeared for sentence at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday via videolink from Low Moss Prison where he had been remanded in custody.
Following the preparation of a criminal justice social work report, Sheriff Keith O’Mahony told McLaughlan that he was prepared to grant him liberty to give him the opportunity to engage with a drug treatment and testing order assessment.
However, he warned McLaughlan that if he failed to comply or commit any further offences that opportunity would be lost and he would face jail.
Matters were adjourned until November 2 for the preparation of the DTTO assessment and bail was granted meantime.
