Stirling begins paying tribute to Queen as Provost shares "sorrow" at passing

Stirling is beginning to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II as the country continues to respond to the news of her death.

Flags at the main Stirling Council Viewforth headquarters and other local authority buildings across the region are flying at half mast as a mark of respect.

An online book of condolence has also been set up on the council's website for locals to pen their own responses to the news - while physical books of condolence are also available at Old Viewforth, Customer First and the Albert Halls.

For members of the public who wish to lay floral tributes to the departed monarch, an area has also been set aside at council headquarters, close to the flag pole in the grounds, for them keen to be able to do so.

Areas will be set aside for locals to pay tribute to the Queen at Stirling Council's Viewforth HQ (Stirling Observer)

Areas have also been set aside at the War Memorial at Corn Exchange Road as well as Ancaster Square in Callander.

All council and civic events set to take place are also currently under review, with a decision on these expected in due course.

Stirling Council Provost Douglas Dodds led the tributes on behalf of the organisation.

Provost Dodds said: “I am saddened to receive the news of Her Majesty the Queen’s death.

"On behalf of the people of Stirling I would like to extend my condolences to the members of the Royal Family and everyone who has been affected at this time of great sorrow.”
