Shotts Bon Accord boss John McKeown admits it’s a major blow to lose striker Danny Burns to Stirling Albion, but says getting forward John McStay back from injury is like signing a new player.
McKeown says they couldn’t stand in Burns’ way when the League Two club came calling, but says they are big boots to fill.
He said: “Danny scored a lot of goals for us and he was an important player for us, but we couldn’t really stand in his way.
“We wish him well and hope it works out good for him.
“Danny scored a lot of goals, that attracts club, and I’m delighted for Danny, but obviously that leaves us with a bit of a headache to try and replace some forward players, because Craig Hastie has moved on to East Kilbride Thistle as well.
“With Danny moving on it leaves us a bit short in that area, so it’s something I’ll need to sort out as well.”
McStay has been missing for two years with an ACL injury but McKeown says he was never off the sidelines and praised his attitude.
McKeown said: “His desire to get back has been second to none, he’s been working hard alongside the physio and the boys, which must have been hard mentally, but he seems to be getting over that, now.
“It’s like a new signing. I’m absolutely delighted for him; he’s a lovely kid and works his socks off. If anybody could come back from that it’s John McStay.”
