Stirling Albion hope it is fourth time lucky as they wait to kick start 2023

Stirling Albion are still waiting to make their 2023 bow as their third game in a row fell victim to the weather.

The Binos had hoped to get back on the pitch with the visit of Forfar to Forthbank, but freezing temperatures in the back half of last week left the playing surface frozen – meaning another frustrating afternoon for the fans to find alternative entertainment.

With league leaders Dumbarton on Scottish Cup duty, there was no change to the situation at the top of League Two, with Stirling now facing the prospect of a busy few months catching up on postponed fixtures.

Elsewhere, Stirling’s next two opponents clashed at the weekend, with Saturday’s opposition Stranraer coming out 3-1 winners away at East Fife, whom the Binos face in Methil a week later.

The Galloway side – who beat Albion at Stair Park last month – held a 2-0 lead at the break thanks to a Josh Walker penalty and James Hilton goal, before Scott Mercer pulled one back midway through the second half for the hosts.

However, on-loan Kilmarnock youngster Aaron Brown – making his first appearance for the Blues - quickly restored the two-goal advantage to seal the win.

It means Stranraer move up to sixth in a jam-packed fight for the promotion play-off spots, with Jamie Hamill’s men keen to keep up the good feeling with a win at Forthbank this weekend.

In terms of team news, manager Darren Young confirmed last week that Jordan McGregor is still to serve a one-match suspension accrued after the Hogmanay clash with Stenhousemuir, but defender Adam Cummins has returned to training after an injury lay-off and could feature.

Meanwhile, new signings Greig Spence and Flynn Duffy will also be hoping to make their Albion debuts after a frustrating wait to get on the pitch after arriving at the club ahead of the Dumbarton match.
