Police still have no leads in the desperate search for a family man who disappeared after going out for a walk two weeks ago. The last sighting of Peter Baglin, 55, was in a petrol station in Mosley Common on Wednesday night (December 28). He has not been seen since.
There was a major search operation underway, with the Bridgewater Canal and woodland around Boothstown among the areas being combed by specialist teams. Some of Peter's belongings, including his hat, phone, bank cards, house key, headphones and an empty bottle of whiskey were later recovered. Some were near to the canal embankment.
Last week, after great-grandad Peter had been missing for seven days, his devastated wife Michelle told the Manchester Evening News how her partner of almost 30 years told her over the phone he was going out for a walk to 'clear his head' and would 'be home soon'. He has not yet returned.
The Manchester Evening News understands there are still no leads in the investigation to trace him, with Peter now missing for 14 days.
The last sighting of him was on December 28, when he was seen on CCTV at the Texaco Garage on East Lancs Road, Mosley Common, minutes after leaving home, at 7.38pm. Worried for him, Michelle called him at around 8.15pm to check where he was, where he assured her he 'would be home soon' and was heading down to the canal.
Speaking last week, Michelle said: "He just went for a walk and didn't come back. I worry he could be out injured somewhere. There is no way he would be away from me and his family. He loves us and wouldn't put us through this.
"We just can't understand what has happened. It is so out of character for him. There haven't been any other confirmed sightings of him apart from at the garage - it is like he has just completely disappeared."
Michelle said Peter, a dad of two, grandad of four, and great-grandad of one, has been a huge support for her throughout the years - notably two years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Smiling, she said told of how he always says: "Michelle, you are my world."
Following Peter's disappearance, as well as major searches undertaken by police, the local community from his hometown of Boothstown were also lending a hand, with mum-of-three Michelle organising the operation, covering as far as Glazebrook, Culcheth, Astley, Swinton, Kearsley and Irlam.
Peter was last seen wearing navy coloured joggers, walking shoe type trainers and a grey Mountain Equipment hoodie with a red zip and a hat. He is described as being 5ft 10ins in height, with grey hair, and a tattoo on the left side of his neck that says 'Michelle'. He is also wearing his wedding ring.
Officers are asking anyone who may have seen Peter, or anyone with any other information regarding Peter's whereabouts, to contact them on the switchboard 0161 856 8351 or 0161 856 7857, via 101 or by speaking to the independent charity – Crimestoppers – anonymously on 0800 555 111.
