Still no arrests made one month on from pool cue brawl in South Shields pub

Police are yet to make any arrests one month on from a brawl involving pool cues at a South Shields pub.

Earlier this month, footage was widely shared on social media showing an altercation taking place in what is understood to be the The Derby pub on Prince Edward Road. The CCTV footage appeared to show a man being knocked out after being hit with a pool cue. The altercation, which involved several people, happened on December 30, but no one was been arrested in connection with the incident.

Despite footage of the incident being shared on social media platforms, a spokesman for Northumbria Police confirmed on Tuesday that no arrests have yet been made. Inquiries are ongoing into the incident.

The video shows an argument taking place in a pub before a man picks up a pool ball from a nearby playing table and throws it. Another man then hits him in the face with a pool cue, knocking him to the floor as another customer appears to throw a pint glass at the fallen man.

Police officers went to the pub on the evening after reports of an incident taking place, but those involved were no longer there. Releasing a statement earlier in January, a spokesperson for the force said: “On the evening of December 30 2022, we were alerted to an altercation taking place within a pub on Prince Edward Road, South Shields. Officers attended the premises but those involved had already left and no reports outlining any injuries were made to police."

CCTV footage was being reviewed by police.
