Steven Gerrard pinpoints key Celtic trait that has impressed him as Aston Villa boss stands by Rangers allegiance

Steven Gerrard made no bones about his Glasgow allegiances ahead of Sunday's clash between Rangers and Celtic.

But the former Ibrox boss knows his old team will be up against it when they face a "very consistent" Celtic side.

It's one of the biggest Old Firm derbies for years and it's a must-win for Rangers as they look to go level on points with Ange Postecoglou 's team.

A win for the league leaders though and Rangers will find themselves in a near-untenable position with six games remaining.

Gerrard, who led Rangers to an undefeated league season in 2020/21 before leaving for Aston Villa, coyly admits he'll be cheering on his former side.

But he admits it could go either way as the title race hangs in the balance.

The Villa boss said: "Listen, I'll watch the game on Sunday.

"Hopefully in a good mood and a good place, Villa's obviously my priority.

"It's a mouth-watering game. Obviously Celtic got the better of them recently. I think it's a real 50/50 game, two really good teams.

"Rangers are obviously in a good place having qualified and knocked Dortmund and Red Star out and Celtic have obviously been very consistent for some time now and are coached extremely well.

"I think you know quite clear who I want to win, that goes without saying. It will be very different sitting at home. Hopefully in a good place to enjoy the game.
