Steven Davis handed new Rangers role as Scott Arfield details how they'll keep injured veteran involved

Scott Arfield says the Rangers players will rally round Steven Davis and keep him involved after his season-ending knee injury. The 37-year-old now has his future in doubt, as he turns 38 next year and his contract expires in the summer. He is a key figure around the dressing room and ahead of Wednesday's Premiership match at home to Motherwell, midfield teammate Arfield has shared how Davis will remain involved with manager Michael Beale's group.

He says the well-liked figure will still be an important person around the changing room with his vast experience hard to come by. Arfield explained: "Davis is such a huge character on the pitch and in the changing room. He is still a key part of our team and we will stay around him and keep his spirits high. He can still help us out with his experience as is a key figure for us on and off the pitch.

"Davis has no enemies at this club, everybody loves him. The senior players all now need to step up and help the younger players in Davis' absence. He (Davis) is hugely respected across the club. He is someone everyone looks to across the younger age groups."

Across two spells at Rangers, the Northern Ireland legend has made 360 appearances, winning eight major trophies including four league titles, alongside being a member of two European final squads.
