Cardiff City manager Steve Morison gave his thanks to West Brom boss Valerien Ismael for allowing him to land his No.1 striker target Jordan Hugill.
Hugill was announced as a City player an hour before the teams were revealed prior to the win over Nottingham Forest.
The 29-year-old was slotted straight into the starting line-up and repaid the manager's faith by scoring just six minutes into the victory over Steve Cooper's men.
The last 48 hours had been a whirlwind for the Bluebirds manager and the player, who had seen very little game-time at The Hawthorns this season.
"That's why I brought him in the building," Morison said.
"Thankfully, the manager at West Brom didn't fancy him anymore.
"Like I said in the press conference. I was waiting on other people because I knew what I wanted to do and I knew the players I wanted to bring in.
"I was on the press conference and the phone was going and then I got off the press conference and I had two new signings in 20 minutes!
"Nothing had happened until then and that's who we were waiting on. But let's not get carried away, we've won a game."
Hugill has scored only one goal this season while on loan from Norwich City to West Brom, but perhaps that doesn't tell the whole story.
Morison said players, especially strikers, are judged purely on stats sometimes, but the manager believes Hugill's all-round game will see him lift others in the back end of the campaign.
"Jordan Hugill is an excellent, excellent Championship football player," he added.
"People get caught up in the stats when it comes to strikers and goals. He has always performed really well in a two.
"You look at where he has been, you don't play at those clubs if you're not a really good football player. I think he just needed a little bit of love.
"We'll get really good performances out of him.
"Even if he hadn't have scored, it's all the other stuff he does. If you look at his career and whenever he has played in a two, the other person scores a hell of a lot of goals, because he does all the other stuff which is horrible.
"I thought he was excellent."

As were most of the Cardiff team, to their credit.
Barring an annoying late goal for Keinan Davis, the only blot on Cardiff's copybook, they were, to a man, fantastic.
And Morison reserved praise for his entire squad following the win over Forest.
"That starting line-up has got pace in the wide areas - by the way I thought Cody (Drameh) was frightening today, I thought he was excellent," the Bluebirds boss added.
"Perry (Ng) was fantastic at right centre-half from start to finish. It's a real team game and squad effort.
"Tommy (Doyle) has come in and added that little bit of quality. His set-pieces were frightening, a couple of the crosses he put in.
"It would be unfair to have him in the team with a couple of other young lads. It's having people who know what the level is - the likes of Joe Ralls, Ryan Wintle, Marlon Pack, Will Vaulks.
"We are starting to get a nice little squad together. I'm really pleased with the work we've done and I think, if you look at Max Watters and Ryan Wintle, there are six fresh faces in the starting line-up.
"We had a good result today, but now all those nice players have got to roll their sleeves up at Barnsley!"
