Steve McClaren makes Nottingham Forest claim after 'nasty' Lewis Grabban incident

Steve McClaren thinks Lewis Grabban was fortunate not to have been sent off in Nottingham Forest's 2-1 win over Derby County.

Grabban, who scored Forest's first goal of the afternoon, was involved in an incident with Derby's Liam Thompson on the half-hour mark.

The 34-year-old forward received just a yellow card by referee Tim Robinson for the offence, but replays suggest he may have been somewhat fortunate to have avoided further punishment.

Discussing the incident on Sky Sports, former Derby and Forest boss McClaren said: "With VAR in the Premier League they would have looked. (Ravel) Morrison got sent off. His boot was lower than that.

"Admittedly it got a little bit higher. The two instances were the same. Unfortunately, Morrison went and Grabban stayed on.

"Grabban was excellent all round in terms of leadership. He's committed to the challenge and missed the ball. He's gone over the top."

Former Forest striker, and fellow Sky Sports pundit, Glen Murray added: "It's a genuine play for the ball. It looks a bit nasty and if it was in the Premier League with VAR we would have seen red."

Steve Cooper's side made it 10 games unbeaten against their East Midlands rivals with a well-earned 2-1 win over the Rams at the City Ground.

Grabban's reactionary finish from inside the area put Forest ahead before Brennan Johnson doubled the Reds' lead.

Tom Lawrence scored a late consolation goal for the visitors from the penalty spot, but Cooper's side held on to secure all three points and move even closer to the Championship play-off spots.
