Steve Kerr is staying in the Bay Area.
Kerr agreed to sign a two-year contract worth $35 million to stay as the Golden State Warriors’ head coach, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday.
The deal will make him the highest-paid coach in league history with an average annual salary of $17.5 million. Per Wojnarowski, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich makes more money annually but also carries the titles of team president.

Kerr, who was in the final year of his contract, has been the Warriors’ coach since 2014, compiling a 501–264 regular-season record and leading the franchise to four NBA championships.
Kerr’s deal now fully aligns with Warriors superstar Steph Curry, who is also under contract through the 2025–26 season. Both Curry and Kerr’s deals will expire in the summer of 2026.
Golden State stumbled to a 19–24 start this season, but the Warriors have won nine of their last 11 games and entered Friday’s slate of games in 10th place in the Western Conference.
