The Warriors are off to a very un-Warriors–like start to the season. They’re 9–10, thanks largely to a six-game losing streak in the first half of November. Despite winning three of their last five, their loss to the Kings on Tuesday was as brutal as any they’ve had this season.
Golden State led by 17 at one point in the third quarter before letting Sacramento come all the way back. Then, the Warriors held a five-point lead with 58 seconds to play and ended up losing after turning the ball over twice in the final minute.
It was an ugly loss that helped eliminate the Warriors from in-season tournament contention which weighed heavily on coach Steve Kerr. But Kerr’s wife, Margot, helped put things in perspective.
“I’ll tell you what happened; I got home from Sacramento, I’m up for a while, I’m thinking about everything, I get into bed, and [I’m] tossing and turning," Kerr said Wednesday on the Tolbert & Copes show on KNBR radio.
“It’s probably 2 o’clock in the morning and Margot wakes up and goes, ‘Jesus, it’s only November. Would you just relax?’” he continued. “And I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And she goes, ‘All I can hear are these heavy sighs, tossing and turning, just go to sleep.’”
She’s right. There’s still plenty of time left for the Warriors to figure things out. They had the same record in their first 19 games last season before getting back on track and finishing sixth in the West at 44–38. I’m sure that’s exactly what Margot told Steve at two in the morning.
