Steve Kerr gives update on Moses Moody’s playing time

Moses Moody has impressed during Andrew Wiggins‘ absence. The third-year wing was thrust in the Golden State Warriors starting lineup during their Eastern Conference road trip. He averaged 12 points, 4 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 50% from the field and 40% from 3-point range.

As such, Steve Kerr intends to keep Moody in the rotation despite Wiggins likely reclaiming his spot within the starting lineup. Kerr’s comments came after a team practice session on Tuesday, when he noted how Moody’s professionalism has ensured he remains ready when opportunities arise. During the media availability, Kerr also praised Moody’s improvements on the defensive end.

“He’s earned it,” Kerr said. “He’s really just been so professional about everything since the day he walked into this building 2 1/2 years ago. He’s a pro. I’m excited to continue to get him some minutes. … He understands personnel. He understands angles and how to guard people on the ball, off the ball. All that stuff, for young players, it takes time to learn. And the learning never stops. You’re constantly having to get to know the new players in the league, and how teams are playing and what actions they’re running. He’s very well prepared for everything that comes his way.”

It’s unclear how many minutes Moody will get within Kerr’s rotation. The Warriors’ roster is deep and littered with productive talent. However, as the franchise continues to see its younger stars blossom, it makes sense Kerr would explore ways to ensure Moody gets more playing time, especially in light of his recent production.

The Warriors face the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. Moody will likely be part of the Warriors’ bench rotation. Given his success in the starting unit, it will be interesting to see how he handles facing second-string talent alongside Chris Paul and Klay Thompson.
