Steve Cooper provides Nottingham Forest transfer update ahead of deadline day

Head coach Steve Cooper was tight-lipped on the prospect of Willy Boly becoming Nottingham Forest’s 19th summer signing.

The Reds are understood to be close to securing a move for the Wolverhampton Wanderers defender, ahead of Thursday’s 11pm deadline. And it may not be the only transfer business completed at the City Ground before the cut-off.

Cooper was giving little away on how he expects deadline day to pan out, on the back of his team’s 6-0 defeat at Manchester City. But he admitted there may be further ins and outs, to round off a busy window Trentside.

“I know there’s been some talk about it. But I haven’t spoken to anyone from the club today regarding transfers, only the guys in the camp,” the Forest boss said of Boly. “Maybe I’ll get some information later, if not in the morning.”

And on what he expects from the final hours of the transfer window, he added: “We’ll see. We may bring players in, we may not. And some players may leave as well.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone (from the club) today. With it being a match day, all focus has been on the game.

“But some guys are here who I know have been working on some stuff. The phone will be back on later and we’ll see what happens. Maybe we’ll have some more news tomorrow.”

A summer overhaul was always going to be necessary for Forest this summer. Renan Lodi became their most recent addition when he joined on loan on Monday, and was immediately thrown into the starting XI at the Etihad Stadium.

They have also brought in Taiwo Awoniyi, Dean Henderson, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards, Neco Williams, Wayne Hennessey, Brandon Aguilera, Harry Toffolo, Lewis O'Brien, Jesse Lingard, Orel Mangala, Emmanuel Dennis, Cheikhou Kouyate, Remo Freuler, Morgan Gibbs-White and Hwang Ui-jo, albeit the latter and Aguilera immediately headed back out on loan. A number of players have headed in the opposite direction since the end of last season, either on loan or on permanent deals.
