Steve Cooper outlines Evangelos Marinakis 'conversations' amid Nottingham Forest's miserable run

Head coach Steve Cooper says he continues to have regular conversations with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis as he aims to spark a turnaround in form.

The Reds make the trip to Leicester City on Monday night having suffered four defeats on the spin. Second half collapses at home to fellow promoted sides Bournemouth and Fulham in their last two outings sees Cooper’s side sitting second-bottom in the table, with four points from their first seven games.

Although frustrated by recent results, the Welshman is confident he is seeing signs of progress in his new-look team, on the back of a summer shopping spree which saw 22 signings made. Cooper has regularly had contact with Marinakis throughout his time in charge, and he says that has remained the case throughout the early weeks of the Premier League season.

“I speak to him often, after most, if not every, game,” Cooper said of Marinakis. “Conversations have been normal.

“There’s been no change there, in terms of communication. And the same with the chief executive (Dane Murphy) and the board. Normal conversations, to be fair.”

Asked if the board are happy with the progress the Reds are making, Cooper added: “I think they probably feel the same as me - some disappointments with the previous few games, but can see that we’ve signed a lot of new players, which everyone knows and has been well documented, and we’re not going to hide away from that.

“It’s a tough challenge to become the team we want to become, and we’re not that yet.

“At times in games, we have been. Three of the games where we have taken the lead, we’ve been good for it, and then we’ve looked like a new team by not seeing that through.

“That’s where we’re at, really. But there’s only one thing to do, and that’s to work even harder and to show that we’re up for the challenge. We’re aiming to improve.”
