Steve Cooper makes 'very honest' Nottingham Forest admission amid dismal run

Head coach Steve Cooper insists morale isn't an issue, despite Nottingham Forest sitting bottom of the Premier League table.

After a positive display in Monday night's draw with Aston Villa, the Reds struggled to keep that going against Wolverhampton Wanderers. They put in a largely lacklustre performance as a Ruben Neves penalty proved enough to clinch all three points for the hosts.

Defeat in the West Midlands means Forest are without a win in eight league games. They are propping up the division with five points from 10 matches.

Cooper admitted it was a disappointed dressing room at Molineux. But he remains defiant that there is enough fighting spirit in the side to overturn a dismal run of form.

"I wouldn't say the mood is buoyant. But at the same time, I wouldn't say it's really low. I'm being very honest with you there," he said after Saturday's 1-0 loss.

"The training ground is a hard-working place and there's a committed group of lads. Nobody is hiding from this.

"When teams are on bad runs, sometimes you can see players disappear a little bit. There's no sign of that.

"I'm not questioning the attitude, the commitment, the work-rate or wanting to do well. I'm not questioning any of that from the boys today in any way, shape or form. That's what we're seeing every single day.

"We have a lot of conversations with the players and meetings. We really are getting that feel. We're just navigating our way into trying to become the team we think we need to be to be more successful than what we are at the moment, in terms of picking up results.

"For sure, we have to keep that mentality. We can't hide; we have to stand up and be counted. That starts with me - and that's a guarantee that I'll give. But we have to keep working every day to navigate our way into what is needed to be able to compete at this level."
